Organic Vineyard Practices Winemaker: Murray Smith

In 1986 after a lengthy search for a site to be able to produce premium cool climate wines, Murray Smith decided on the Northern slopes of Mount Canobolas Orange NSW. At 850masl the site ticked the required boxes of aspect, climate and soil. North facing, rich volcanic soils with natural drainage Murray chose to plant Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon with the aim to produce distinctive, long lived wines.

Fast forward and Canobolas Smith is still an important player in the Orange Wine region with the wines maintaining their award winning run in the Boutique Australian Wine Shows. Murrays experience here and overseas is reflected in the consistency and quality of Canobolas Smith Wines.

Canobolas Smith has just been sold, so we are lucky to still have some of Murray’s timeless wines on hand. They won't last.
