Winemaker: Frieda Henskens

Henskens Rankin is Frieda Henskens and partner David Rankin.

Fascinated by sparkling wine, the decision to specialise in making it came naturally. In 2010 Henskens Rankin of Tasmania was founded with just two tonnes of fruit in tiny parcels and a vision of creating distinctively Tasmanian styles of sparkling. Based in Nipaluna Hobart, exceptional fruit is sourced from sustainable minded growers throughout the island.

The approach to winemaking is deliberately small-scale and artisanal, always seeking to maximise quality. Doing crazy things carefully.

The house style always warrants extended time on lees, creating complex, age worthy wines, with longevity and pure class.

I was introduced to Frieda and David and their wines through an old industry friend in Tasmania. Every time we spoke he raved about these amazing wines that he had tried and bought for his venue in Launceston. He warned that they were made in minuscule quantities and rivalled some of the best French fizz he had ever tried! I was lucky enough to meet Frieda and try these exceptional wines. These are truly great examples of what Frieda and David are able to achieve with their commitment and passion for the project!
